Connecting the Dots

In honor of September 11th, I wrote this piece as part of my first foray into blogging. Please keep victims and survivors in your thoughts and prayers today.

We Remember the World Trade Center

Synchronicity is when meaning can be found in two seemingly unrelated but concurrent events.  It was the cornerstone of the preeminent psychiatrist Carl Jung’s work.  He said that synchronicity reveals the connections between the subjective and objective worlds.  It’s that sense of being in the right place at the right time.  Or the wrong place at the wrong time.  However you’d like to frame it.

I’ve experienced many synchronicities in my life.  It seems the older I get, the more they occur.  Some years ago my wife and I were living as corporate expats in Singapore.  We socialized with other American expats.  One of these was Mike.  Mike hailed from Chicago originally.  So did my parents.  We looked for other things we might have in common.  Chicago wasn’t enough.
